ISO 9001 & Hyperbaric Chamber Manufacturing
If an HBOT supplier displays an ISO 9001 logo, ask one important question: does the company you are actually buying from hold the certification, or does the certificate belong to its overseas supplier or manufacturer?
There is a real difference. ISO 9001 relates to the Quality Management System of the organisation covered by the certification. A certificate held by an overseas manufacturer does not automatically mean that a separate UK company selling its products is itself ISO 9001 certified.
Buying a hyperbaric chamber? Check before you assume.Does the company selling you the chamber actually hold ISO 9001 certification? Is its own legal company name shown on the certificate? Or does the certification belong to the overseas factory or supplier it buys from? What is the difference, and does it matter? Read on and we will explain.
First, our own position
Oxygens is ISO 9001 certified.
We hold ISO 9001 certification for our own Quality Management System. We are not simply displaying or relying on a certificate belonging to an overseas factory that supplies finished chambers to us.
We have ISO 9001 certification because we manufacture hyperbaric chambers in the UK. We are directly involved in manufacture, engineering, quality management, installation, servicing and ongoing support. We do not simply import finished HBOT chambers from overseas and present our supplier’s certification as if it were certification of Oxygens itself.

What Is ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 is an internationally recognised standard for Quality Management Systems, often shortened to QMS.
It provides a structured framework for how an organisation manages quality across its operations, including documented processes, responsibilities, customer requirements, performance monitoring, corrective action, risk-based thinking and continual improvement.
In practical terms, it is about having defined and repeatable systems for managing quality rather than relying purely on informal knowledge or individual judgement.

Why Does Oxygens Have ISO 9001 Certification?
Because Oxygens is not simply a website selling imported hyperbaric chambers.
We are directly involved in UK manufacturing, engineering, product development, quality management, installation, servicing, training and long-term technical support.
That means quality management is relevant to the entire customer journey, not just the point at which a product leaves a factory.
A hyperbaric chamber may be used regularly for many years. The quality of the organisation behind the product therefore matters as much as the appearance of the equipment itself.
The Difference Between the Seller Being Certified and Its Supplier Being Certified
There is nothing inherently wrong with international supply chains. Many UK companies legitimately source components or finished equipment from overseas manufacturers.
The important point is transparency.
Overseas supplier certified
The factory holds ISO 9001
A manufacturer overseas may hold ISO 9001 certification for its own Quality Management System. That can be useful evidence about that manufacturer, but it does not automatically mean that a separate UK reseller purchasing its products has its own certified Quality Management System.
Oxygens
The company you are dealing with is certified
Oxygens manufactures hyperbaric chambers in the UK and holds ISO 9001 certification for its own Quality Management System. The certification therefore relates to the organisation manufacturing, installing, servicing and supporting the equipment sold to our customers.
Buyer Beware: Do Not Stop at an ISO Logo
Important for HBOT buyers
Ask to see the actual certificate.
A website displaying an ISO logo, or referring to “ISO certified manufacturing”, does not by itself prove that the company taking your payment has been ISO 9001 certified. The certificate may belong to another organisation in the supply chain.
Before relying on an ISO claim, check the legal company name printed on the certificate, the scope of certification, the certification body and whether the certificate is current.
This is especially important where a UK seller is importing finished hyperbaric chambers from a manufacturer elsewhere in the world.
How to Check an ISO 9001 Claim
You do not need specialist knowledge. Ask the supplier for a copy of the certificate and look for the following:
- Company name: Is the seller you are dealing with actually named?
- Scope: Does it cover the relevant products and services?
- Certification body: Who issued the certificate?
- Validity: Is the certificate current?
- Accreditation: Check the credentials of the certification body.
- Ownership: Does the certificate belong to the seller or another organisation?

Why Does This Matter When Buying a Hyperbaric Chamber?
Accountability
When the company you are purchasing from operates its own certified Quality Management System, that certification relates to that organisation’s processes rather than only to a third-party manufacturer you may never deal with directly.
Consistency
ISO 9001 focuses on controlled, documented and repeatable processes. This is particularly relevant in engineering and manufacturing environments.
Documentation and traceability
Quality management involves structured documentation, defined responsibilities, monitoring, corrective action and review.
Continual improvement
ISO 9001 is not intended to be a one-time marketing badge. A Quality Management System is expected to be monitored, reviewed and continually improved.
Confidence in the business behind the chamber
A good hyperbaric chamber purchase is not only about pressure, size and price. Buyers should also consider who manufactures the equipment, who installs it, who services it and who will be there if support is needed later.

Oxygens combines UK manufacturing with engineering, clinical and technical expertise.
Our team includes more than 20 years of NHS clinical experience, PressureSafe-qualified engineers and IBUM-qualified expertise.

Ask More Than Just the Price
When comparing HBOT suppliers, ask who manufactures the chamber, who installs it, who supports it and whose name is actually shown on any certification being used to support the sale.
