Joanna Kunowska-Afrika and Joanna Malinowska share the story of their Bristol wellness centre and why they chose Oxygens.
Our Story
Hyperbaric Oxygen Heaven was founded by two friends, Joanna Kunowska-Afrika and Joanna Malinowska, whose journeys into hyperbaric oxygen therapy began in very different ways.
For one of us, it was about rediscovering ambition and taking steps towards better health. For the other, it was about finding courage, confidence and learning to step outside her comfort zone.
What started as a simple conversation between two friends has grown into a business we’ve been building together for over four years. And while our journeys were different, we discovered something we both share, a genuine passion for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, learning and helping people feel supported.
Our Centre
Based in Bristol, Hyperbaric Oxygen Heaven is an independent wellness centre offering hyperbaric oxygen therapy and complementary wellbeing services.
Our facilities include three mild hyperbaric chambers and a hard-sided chamber operating at pressures up to 2.0 ATA. Alongside HBOT, we offer molecular hydrogen inhalation and are expanding our services to include red light therapy.
We believe that every person is different. That’s why we take time to understand our clients, explain the process and create an environment where people feel comfortable, informed and supported. For us, it’s not simply about providing sessions. It’s about creating a place where people feel welcome and genuinely cared for.
Our Education & Experience
Education has been one of the most important parts of our journey from the beginning.
We both hold a Professional Master’s Degree in Hyperbaric Medicine and have completed specialist training with recognised organisations and educators, including:
- DDRC Healthcare, Plymouth Chamber Operator Training
- International Board of Undersea Medicine (IBUM), Madrid Training with Dr Jason Sonners and Dr Masha Makeeva
- Advanced Topics in Hyperbaric Therapy 18 hours with Dr Masha Makeeva
- Oxygens CPD-Certified Comprehensive Training on Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
We also continue to renew our IBUM training annually. For us, education is never something that’s simply completed. We believe in continuing to learn, asking questions and developing our understanding of the science, safety and technology behind the services we offer.
Why We Chose Oxygens
As Hyperbaric Oxygen Heaven continued to grow, we knew we wanted to invest in a hard-sided hyperbaric chamber. Choosing the right manufacturer was an important decision for us.
We wanted to work with a UK-based company that takes engineering, quality, safety and technical support seriously. Oxygens stood out to us for its British manufacturing, quality standards, certification and approach to chamber design and testing.
But what made the decision feel right wasn’t only the equipment. It was also the people behind it.
From our conversations with the owner to the ongoing communication with the team, we’ve appreciated the personal approach, openness and willingness to answer our questions. When you’re making a significant investment in your business, having that direct contact and knowing there are people you can turn to really matters.
We also completed Oxygens’ own CPD-certified training, which became another valuable part of our continuing professional development.
For us, choosing Oxygens wasn’t simply about purchasing another chamber. It was about finding the right equipment and the right people to support the next stage of our business.

Looking Ahead
Over the past four years, we’ve grown not only as business owners but also as individuals. We’ve learned a great deal, faced challenges and continued to invest in our knowledge, equipment and the future of our centre. And we’re still learning.
Our goal remains the same: to keep developing Hyperbaric Oxygen Heaven while creating a welcoming, professional environment where people feel comfortable, informed and supported.
