hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions in Birmingham location

Try a Hyperbaric Chamber before you buy

Trying a hyperbaric chamber before buying helps you check comfort, access, pressure controls, oxygen delivery and day-to-day operation. A useful demonstration should also explain installation, training, servicing and the full cost of ownership.

Whether you are comparing a home hyperbaric chamber or choosing equipment for a wellness business, this guide explains what to look for, what to ask and how to prepare for your visit.

What should you check at a hyperbaric chamber demonstration?

Use this quick checklist when you try a hyperbaric chamber before buying:

  • The exact model, layout and operating pressure being demonstrated.
  • How easily you can enter, settle into position and leave after the session.
  • Ear comfort during pressure changes and communication with the operator.
  • The oxygen delivery system and fit of any supplied mask.
  • Noise, temperature and ventilation with all equipment running.
  • Controls, monitoring and the procedure for requesting a stop.
  • Access, floor loading, electrical supply and space at your property.
  • Manufacturing details, documentation and equipment training.
  • Installation costs, warranty terms, servicing and technical support.

Before your visit: confirm what the demonstration includes

Ask whether your appointment includes a product viewing, an opportunity to sit inside an unpressurised chamber, a supervised pressurised session or a factory tour. Confirm the model available, appointment length, any fee and the suitability checks required before attending.

If you are considering several models, explain how you intend to use the chamber. Our hyperbaric chambers for sale in the UK page is a useful starting point for comparing layouts and specifications.

9 things to assess when trying a hyperbaric chamber before buying

1. Try the model you are considering

Ask for the chamber’s model name and specification. If the demonstration uses a different version, request a clear explanation of the differences in size, seating, controls, pressure and included equipment.

For example, our Winslet hard-shell hyperbaric chamber is available in a version operating up to 2.0 ATA. Confirm the pressure planned for your demonstration, as a chamber’s maximum rating and the pressure used for a particular session can differ.

Ask: “Is this the exact model and configuration shown in my quotation?”

2. Check entry, internal space and seating

With the demonstrator’s guidance, assess entry and exit while the chamber is unpressurised. Consider the doorway or opening, the step into the chamber and whether you need assistance.

Spend time in the position you would use during a session. Check legroom, headroom, back support, visibility and how enclosed the space feels. If buying for several users, consider their different heights, builds and mobility requirements.

Ask: “Can the intended users enter comfortably and maintain a comfortable position throughout a session?”

3. Discuss ear comfort and pressure changes

Before a pressurised trial, the operator should explain pressure changes, ear equalisation and how to communicate discomfort. Tell them promptly if you experience ear pain, difficulty equalising or anxiety. Do not push through pain.

The Baromedical Nurses Association’s hyperbaric care guidelines emphasise preparation, communication and ear equalisation. Complete the provider’s suitability screening and seek appropriate medical advice where needed before a pressurised session.

Ask: “How do I alert the operator if I need the pressure change paused or the session ended?”

4. Understand the oxygen delivery system

Ask what pressurises the chamber and how oxygen reaches the user. Chamber pressure, oxygen concentrator output and the oxygen concentration actually inhaled describe different things. Request an explanation for the complete setup being quoted.

If the chamber uses a mask or built-in breathing system, often called BIBS, check fit, comfort, cleaning and replacement arrangements. Ask the demonstrator to explain how exhaled gas is managed and which breathing equipment is approved for that chamber.

Ask: “Which oxygen equipment and masks are included, and what will need replacing?”

5. Listen with the complete system running

Ask to hear the chamber with its compressor, oxygen concentrator and any cooling equipment operating. Consider the sound both inside the chamber and in the surrounding room, particularly if your installation will be near bedrooms, treatment rooms or offices.

Notice temperature and airflow during the demonstration. Ask for written ventilation and room requirements for your intended installation, including where the associated equipment will be positioned.

Ask: “What ventilation, clearance and temperature conditions does this system require at my property?”

6. Check controls, communication and supervision

Ask the demonstrator to explain the pressure display, normal controls, communication system and monitoring features fitted to that model. Make sure you understand how to contact the operator and request assistance.

Discuss normal stopping procedures, emergency arrangements and the supervision required during use. Ask which items and electronic devices are permitted inside. Any demonstration of safety systems should follow the manufacturer’s procedures.

Ask: “What practical training will the people operating this chamber receive?”

7. Assess installation at your own property

A showroom visit should lead to an installation assessment. Bring photographs, a floor plan and measurements of the full delivery route, including doorways, corridors, corners, steps and the proposed room.

Request model-specific information covering:

  • Delivery dimensions and access requirements.
  • Space for the chamber, associated equipment and servicing access.
  • Installed weight, occupant loads and floor-loading requirements.
  • Electrical supply, ventilation and any cooling requirements.
  • Whether specialist lifting or structural assessment is needed.

Ask: “Can you confirm in writing that this location is suitable before I commit?”

8. Check who manufactures and supports the chamber

Ask where the chamber is manufactured, who is responsible for its pressure vessel and which company provides installation, repairs and replacement parts. Request the documentation applicable to the exact model.

At Oxygens, you can arrange a visit to our Birmingham hyperbaric chamber factory to meet the team and discuss manufacture, installation and support.

When reviewing certificates, check the company named, the activities covered and the equipment to which they apply. ISO 9001 concerns a quality management system; it does not by itself establish medical-device approval. Read our compliance and engineering standards information for more detail.

Ask: “Can you explain which documents apply to this chamber and my intended use?”

9. Get a complete ownership quotation

Compare written quotations covering the chamber, oxygen equipment, masks, VAT, delivery, installation, commissioning and training. Ask about consumables, servicing, examinations, call-out charges and replacement parts.

Check warranty cover separately for the vessel, electrical components and associated equipment. Confirm maintenance conditions, exclusions and how support requests are handled.

Our hyperbaric chamber servicing page explains ongoing maintenance options. Our CPD-certified hyperbaric training course provides supporting knowledge; practical equipment training should also cover the specific chamber you purchase.

Ask: “What will ownership cost over the first three years, and what does each warranty cover?”

Buying a hyperbaric chamber for a business?

Use the demonstration to discuss staffing, user screening, cleaning, records and appointment scheduling. If comparing individual chambers with a shared chamber, ask how pressure changes and requests to end a session affect the other occupants.

Also confirm the pressure-system duties that apply to your installation. The Health and Safety Executive’s PSSR guidance states that qualifying workplace pressure equipment needs a Written Scheme of Examination and an examination before use. Subsequent examinations must follow the scheme; routine servicing and statutory examination have different purposes.

Ask about our Written Scheme of Examination information for business orders and confirm the documentation and examination arrangements included in your quotation.

Where can you try an Oxygens hyperbaric chamber in the UK?

Prospective buyers can explore these options:

  • Manchester: experience the Winslet at Brysk in a working wellness setting.

  • Birmingham factory: arrange a visit to see manufacture and discuss your requirements with our team.

Arrange visits in advance. Confirm the available model, session format, price and suitability requirements before travelling. A factory visit and a pressurised trial may need separate arrangements.

Can you hire a hyperbaric chamber before buying?

Hiring may help you assess how a chamber fits into your home or business routine over a longer period. Check the minimum hire term, installation arrangements, servicing responsibilities and any purchase-credit terms before agreeing.

Frequently asked questions about hyperbaric chamber demonstrations

Do I need to try a hyperbaric chamber before buying?

A demonstration is a useful way to assess fit, comfort, controls and the supplier’s support. It should be followed by a suitable installation assessment and a written quotation.

Are hyperbaric chamber demonstrations free?

Charges depend on the location and appointment type. Confirm whether you are booking a viewing, factory visit or paid chamber session before attending.

What should I bring to a demonstration?

Bring your questions, intended-use details, room measurements and photographs of the delivery route. Ask the provider in advance about suitability screening and preparation for a pressurised trial.

Will one trial tell me whether a chamber will improve my health?

A trial can help you assess the practical experience, but it cannot establish long-term health outcomes or replace medical assessment. Oxygens chambers are supplied for non-medical wellness and recovery use.
